Abstract
Editorial Notes
Volume 1, Issue 1 | March 2026
Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Journal of Critical Social Sciences and Review (JCSSR). This first volume marks a significant milestone in our commitment to providing a platform for research that is not only academically rigorous but also deeply connected to the practical challenges of our communities.
The papers featured in this issue reflect a diverse range of disciplines—from governance and disaster resilience to retail management and educational technology—all united by a common goal: bridging the gap between theory and real-world application.
Resilience and Community SafetyIn a country frequently visited by natural hazards, understanding our landscape is vital. One study provides a comprehensive scoping review of disaster mitigation in the Philippines, highlighting the "implementation gap" between our strong national policies and local practice. Complementing this, research on high-tide prediction in Bulacan reveals a "reliability paradox,” where community trust in technology is just as important as the accuracy of the data itself.
Technology and EducationWe are also proud to showcase student-led innovations from Bulacan State University. These include TRACE, a breadboard-based tester that simplifies electronics for beginners, and Sew Guider, an interactive machine that uses AI to preserve the traditional craft of sewing for a new generation. Furthermore, our lead article on Cybersecurity Awareness reminds us that the "human firewall" is our strongest defense in the digital age, provided that formal education is translated into consistent daily habits.
Productivity and CommerceFinally, we explore the engines of our local economy. A study on convenience stores in Valenzuela City introduces the BRIDGE framework to help small retailers stay competitive, while research on production worker productivity emphasizes that while physical stamina gets the job done, emotional engagement is the key to sustainable success.
As you read through these pages, we hope you find insights that inspire not just further study but also meaningful action. We extend our deepest gratitude to the researchers, peer reviewers, and the academic community for making this vision a reality.
