About the Journal

The Journal of Critical Social Sciences and Review (JCSSR) is an open-access, peer-reviewed platform dedicated to the rigorous exploration of human society and the complex systems that govern it. Our primary mission is to provide a space where critical thinking meets empirical research, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the modern social landscape.

Aims and Scope

We aim to bridge the gap between theory and practice. By publishing high-quality research that challenges conventional wisdom and offers fresh perspectives, JCSSR seeks to influence both academic discourse and real-world policy. We believe that social issues are rarely isolated; therefore, we champion research that is analytical, transformative, and globally relevant.

JCSSR welcomes original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and conceptual papers across a broad spectrum of disciplines. While our foundation is rooted in the social sciences, we are deeply committed to interdisciplinary inquiry.

Core areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Education: Innovations in pedagogy, educational leadership, and the sociology of learning.

  • Business Administration: Organizational behavior, ethical management, and sustainable business practices.

  • Social Sciences & Social Work: Community development, social justice, and human rights.

  • Psychology: Behavioral studies, mental health advocacy, and social psychology.

  • Public Administration & Political Science: Governance, public policy, international relations, and political theory.

  • Disaster Management: Risk reduction, climate resilience, and emergency response strategies.

Expanding the Horizon (Interdisciplinary Inclusion)

In an era of rapid digital transformation, we recognize that the "social" world is increasingly intertwined with the "technical" world. JCSSR encourages submissions that explore the intersection of social science with other fields. We are open to manuscripts focusing on:

Engineering & Technology: The social impact of infrastructure and technological advancement.

Artificial Intelligence (AI): The ethics, sociology, and governance of AI and machine learning.

Blockchain & Fintech: The socio-economic implications of decentralized finance and digital transparency.

Our Philosophy: If a study offers a critical perspective on how technology or industry shapes human behavior and society, it has a home at JCSSR.

Publication Frequency

The Journal of Critical Social Sciences and Review (JCSSR) operates on a quarterly publication schedule, releasing four issues per year to ensure the timely dissemination of research. Issues are officially published at the end of each quarter:

  • 1st Quarter: March

  • 2nd Quarter: June

  • 3rd Quarter: September

  • 4th Quarter: December

To accommodate the steady pace of scholarly discovery, the journal accepts manuscript submissions on a rolling basis throughout the year. This approach provides authors with the flexibility to submit their work whenever it is ready, while allowing the editorial team to maintain a rigorous and thorough review process for every issue.

Peer-Review Policy

A rigorous double-blind peer-review process is maintained to ensure fairness, objectivity, and scholarly integrity. The journey of a manuscript involves the following stages:

  • Initial Screening: Every submission undergoes a preliminary editorial review, including plagiarism detection and an assessment of its alignment with the journal’s scope and formatting standards.

  • Expert Evaluation: Submissions meeting the initial criteria are assigned to at least two qualified experts. These reviewers evaluate the work based on methodological soundness, originality, ethical compliance, and overall contribution to the field.

  • Anonymity: To safeguard impartiality, the identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the process.

  • Final Decision: The Editor-in-Chief renders a final decision based on consolidated reviewer feedback. If revisions are required, the manuscript may undergo further evaluation followed by professional copyediting and layout preparation.

Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

JCSSR operates in accordance with the ethical guidelines set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

  • Authorship: Authors are expected to submit original work and must disclose all funding sources and potential conflicts of interest.

  • Responsibility: Reviewers are tasked with providing objective, well-supported evaluations, while editors ensure that all decisions are unbiased and confidential.

  • Integrity: The journal maintains strict procedures for addressing allegations of misconduct, including the issuance of corrections or retractions when necessary to protect the credibility of the academic record.

Plagiarism Policy

Originality is a cornerstone of the journal’s standards. All submissions undergo mandatory plagiarism screening prior to peer review.

  • Threshold: A similarity index of 10% or below (excluding references and common phrases) is required.

  • Action: Manuscripts exceeding this limit are returned for correction or may be declined. Any form of intentional plagiarism or unethical use of copyrighted material is grounds for immediate rejection or blacklisting.

Article Processing Charges (APC)

To maintain high-quality open-access standards and cover technical operations, JCSSR implements an Article Processing Charge (APC) for accepted papers:

  • Local Contributors: ₱2,500.00 (For Volume 1, No. 2)
  • Foreign Contributors: USD 45.00 (For Volume 1, No. 2)

Fairness Clause: The APC is only collected after a manuscript has been officially accepted. This ensures that financial considerations never influence editorial or peer-review decisions. These funds support DOI registration, platform maintenance, and long-term digital preservation.

Manuscript Length and Page Limit Policy

Overview

The Journal of Critical Social Sciences and Review (JCSSR) prioritizes research that is both intellectually rigorous and efficiently communicated. To ensure that every published article provides sufficient depth without becoming unnecessarily verbose, a strict page limit has been established for all submissions.

Submission Requirements

Authors are required to adhere to the following page constraints for their initial and final manuscripts:

  • Minimum Length: 8 pages.

  • Maximum Length: 15 pages.

These limits include the abstract, keywords, main text, tables, figures, and references. The page count is based on the journal’s standard formatting (Single-spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch margins).

Rationale for Length Constraints

  • Minimum Threshold (8 Pages): To ensure that every study provides a comprehensive review of literature, a clear methodology, robust data analysis, and a critical discussion of results. Works falling below this limit are often deemed "short communications" or "research notes," which may not align with the depth required for a full JCSSR article.

  • Maximum Threshold (15 Pages): To encourage authors to focus on their primary findings and maintain a clear, logical flow. This limit ensures that the journal remains accessible to readers and that the peer-review process is manageable for reviewers.

Policy Enforcement: Automatic Rejection

The journal maintains a strict administrative screening process. Submissions that do not fall within the 8 to 15-page range will be automatically declined at the preliminary editorial stage. * Below 8 Pages: The submission will be returned with a recommendation to expand the depth of the study.

  • Exceeding 15 Pages: The manuscript will be automatically rejected. In these cases, the editorial office will not proceed to plagiarism checking or peer review.

Exceptions

While the page limit is strictly enforced for standard research articles, exceptions may be considered only for Systematic Literature Reviews or Meta-Analyses, provided that the author secures written permission from the Editor-in-Chief prior to submission.
